First drafts

This is the first draft of our music video:

After viewing our music video and receiving constructive criticism to improve it further. We have filled in the gaps and solved some of the lip syncing issues, but we are awaiting further comments from our peers and will improve using this in the future.

This is the first draft of our Digipak:

From producing trials and drafts of our music video and digipak, it means we can keep receiving constructive criticism and strengths. Additionally, we can compare our drafts to our final music video - and see how far we have come. We can also see the process in which is took to create the music video and digipak.

Reflection of footage used so far- with subtitles

By analysing our music video frequently it means we can look at lip syncing, lighting problems and get an idea on how we have progressed. Prior to this, we still need to get footage in our drama studio with glow sticks and glow in the dark paint.

Prop Research

Our music video doesn't use that many props as the main focus is the artist herself. due to her being a new up-coming star we need to make sure the audience see her as the main part of the video.
However we have used glow in the dark paint when filming in the drama studio so we can use a dark background and show our artist in the light. We also used glow sticks to bring colour to the shot. As our video is trying to propose a colourful, insane and vulnerable presentation of our artist relating to young girls. The footage from Ripley's black hole shows the colourful side and the footage from the drama does the same. The town/subway footage shows the vulnerability of our artist.

Accessories:

We have used hair accessories and a variety of make up for various different shots to show the quirky side to our artist. So when we filmed at Hyde Park in London and in the Dance studio we used hair clips and fake butterflies to show the nature side to our artist.
When we filmed at Ripley's museum in London we used heavy dark make up on the eyes so they stood out. But when we filmed in town/under the subway we used lighter make up and little make up on eyes. The attention was focused on the red lipstick our artist was wearing - this made the lip syncing clear.

Feedback 22/11/16

Today we received feedback from our teachers again (as seen below):

Our teachers watched our video so far and gave us some constructive criticism to improve our video further this included more fast shots to show the trippy side of our video better. So we decided we are also going to film in the drama studio so we have more shots to use so every shot can be faster. They said that the first bridge shot had little relevance and point so we've removed this shot and will use the footage from the drama studio instead. Some of our shots are on screen for to long so they said that we need to chop up some of the shots and put more shots in instead. They also noted that we should get rid of the effects that change the colour of my face, and to get more shots of our artists eyes/close ups. Our teachers loved our shots that had the ghosting effect over them so we've included this effect to more shots, we've also added more overlaying effects to make the video more interesting. They also said that we should add an effect to the white wall background as it looks quite plan on its own.

Signature Trials

To help us develop Stellato Star's image we created a unique signature which she will use to sign the album digipak and our merchandise.

Location Research/Inspiration

Below is a Prezi of the research we did into our locations and how we found them locations:

Subway Filming

Below are some gifs of footage from filming within the subway:

We decided our next step was to get some more footage as a lot of the feedback we received said we needed more shots. We decided to get a lot of footage of the artist going crazy, for example:

  • The artist spinning around with the camera
  • Spinning around in locations
  • A tripod set mid shot of the whole song sang by the artist so it could be intermingled within the music video
  • Close up shots
  • Long shots
We decided to get more shots of the artist going crazy to match the song lyrics, rather than just the artist lip syncing. These shots can then be sped up to make the artist look 'psycho' and 'insane'.

Website so far analysed

This is an evaluation/analysis of our website. By doing this it allows us to gain an outside opinion on what we've done so far and therefore we can take their feedback and improve out website. We have gained more ideas on what we could add or take away so that our website looks as professional as possible and also as fitting for Stellato's character and persona. We aimed to create a website that will reflect Stellato's brand image and will represent our music video.

Interview Research

Powered by emaze
Interviews are a good way to get to know the artist more on a personal level which can help a target audience feel like they are connected more with them. Additionally, the artists is able to talk about their newest music releases and the process of making their music videos.  Before we did our interview with Stellato, we wanted to research interview questions which are usually used in interviews with new artists.

Bad Footage 2

Drama Studio:

This is the footage we filmed whilst in the Drama Studio which was unsuccessful in creating the effect we wanted. When we initially wanted to film in the Drama Studio, we wanted to use the coloured lights to create a 'crazy' look to match the theme of the music video, as we were going to flicker the different coloured lights over the artist. However, when we went into the Drama Studio to use the lights - we couldn't get them to work, meaning we had to use the lights we had in media which weren't coloured. When we first filmed, we just held the lights we had steady which didn't give the insanity look we desired. We then tried moving the lights in front of the artist which made the lights look more like they were flashing and flickering. However, we don't feel this footage captures a successful look so we will therefore not be used in our final music video.

Green Room

When we have been receiving feedback on our music video, people have really liked the hypnotic vibe we have created through the locations. However, they said we need to vary our shots and maybe find another location.

We decided to film some clips in the green room at school as we know we can change the colour of the background - meaning we can change the background lots of different colours and place the clips together to create pace for the chorus. We also needed to film some more footage as we needed some close up shots of the artist lip syncing. Whilst also being in the location, we filmed the artist singing the whole song so if when it comes to editing we are missing a section, we have that to fall back on to fill in the gaps.

Below is some pictures we took whilst on set:

Target Audience

Merchandise Research

In order for our website to be successful we needed to include a merchandise page so that our brand image and persona would be spread around, making our artist well-known. We researched other artist's merchandise so that we would know what the most common items for sale are, the prices, sizes and delivery information. Below is a video showing Ellie Goulding's, Ariana Grande's, Sia's and Zara Larsson's merchandise.

From researching their merchandise we have found that the most common items are t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, posters and hoodies. We have taken into account that we are new artist so our products will be priced lower than big stars like Ariana Grande.

Below is a table of all of data we collected:

Logo Final

Below is an image of our final logo design:

The artist's logo is something which can be placed on the album, website, etc which is almost a mark of the artist - it is something you look at and immediately picture an artist. It is also a branding image - it can be placed on merchandise and people will advertise the artist through their logo being on merchandise.

Half-way evaluation

By producing this halfway evaluation, it's a way of connecting back with the people which helped guide and inspire us when we presented our first initial ideas. Presenting this to the class, also helps them give us feedback on whether they believe we are on the correct track towards a successful music video - or whether we need to produce some more ideas. By including some footage of our music video so far, means that they can give us feedback on our editing and footage so far, also whether it matches the music genre we are following. This is also a time for us to get feedback on what we are urgently missing so we can improve.

Music Video Footage so far

Good footage

Below is a video of shots which were successful and made the final cut of our music video:

Shot one and two:
These shots are successful due to how the fan created the look of the artist being out of control with her hair flying in all directions. Using the fan is something we can do in more of our shots after seeing how successful it was in corresponding to our theme.

Shot three:
This shot is successful as the lighting, the background and the lip syncing are all crisp and perfected. The red colour which is part of our snergy is also extremely vibrant in this shot.

Shot four:
This shot was successful as their was a smooth transition between the artist singing in the mirror to her singing to the camera. The lighting is also to a good standard that the shot can be used in the final music video.

Shot five:
It was good that this long shot was successful as we now have a variety of shots to exhibit in our final music video. This means that with a more variety, it will be more interesting and visually appealing to the viewer of the music video.

Shot six:
This shot was successful as their was a smooth transition into a long shot to a close up of the artist. The camera was also still on a tripod so the shot was crisp and not shaky.

Shot seven:
This shot was successful as their was lots of reflections of the artist in the mirror emphasising the theme we wanted to create in the mirror maze (the artist seeing herself from all angles and going crazy).

Bad footage

Below is a video of some clips which we have taken whilst being on shoot that aren't high enough quality to put onto our final music video, or we need to put effects over to improve.

The first shot:
The first shot was meant to be of the performer walking in Hyde Park which we would have put in the music video as a clip of non-performance. However, in the clip we see someone in the background rolling a suitcase - meaning it is not sufficient and perfected enough to put in the final music video. From analysing footage like this, it shows us when we are on set in the future, we need to make sure the background is free of the general public.

The second shot:
The second shot was meant to be of the performer laying down lip syncing. However, due to the sun and the shadow cast from it hitting the artist, it means the shot isn't as crisp as it could have been if we had of prevented the artists shadow. To improve this shot however, we can just put an effect over it as a distraction from this lighting problem. From analysing this shot, it means we now know to focus on the lighting when being on shoot to make each shot of the music video be as finished as possible.

The third shot:
The third shot was a disco room in Ripleys 'Believe it or Not' museum which we thought would go perfect with the theme of lights. However, when we watched back the footage, the door was in the background and when the general public were coming near the room, they were in the mirror reflection. This means the shot didn't fulfil the effect we wanted it to.

The fourth shot:
The fourth shot was meant to be the artist lip syncing, however due to the mirrors being all around us in the mirror maze - us filming the artist was caught on the mirrors reflection. This means that it wasn't a sufficient enough shot for us to include in the final music video. From analysing this shot, it means that when we are editing our Ripleys footage - we need to watch the mirrors reflections to make sure noone but the artist is in the reflections.

The fifth shot:
The fifth shot was meant to be a dramatic hair flick to match the theme of the music video (out of control, crazy, eerie, etc) - however this shot didn't match this idea. This meant after analysing this shot, we filmed this shot again with more of an insanity look.

The sixth&seventh shot:
Both these shots were unfortunately not to their best quality due to how we filmed on our iPhones and iPods. From analysing these shots, it showed us that we need to film on a professional camera for best  quality. However, to bring back these shots, we can put effects over the top.

Brand image inspiration mood board

Below is a mood board of brand image inspiration from current artists:
From looking at the brand image of current artists, we can get an idea of what is popular with our target audience. From researching, we have found that whilst the artist wasn't as well known, they would sport high street clothing names to their target audience. We also like the idea of our artist looking dressed up in black dresses, but also wearing colourful clothing for locations like Tropical Wings.
